summer hair mistakes
Coco Sanders, hairstylist for Appearances Hair Design in Glendale, Arizona suggests:
Do not over condition. Using conditioners that over-moisturize the hair can leave it feeling dull and weighed down and too much protein can cause the hair to be brittle.
Elastic + Wet hair = Bad Idea. Using rubber bands or elastic hair ties on your wet hair can cause serious stress and unnecessary breakage. If you need to keep the hair away from your face, opt for a cotton and Lycra head band or a loose bun.
Soak it up. Wet the hair down prior to jumping into the swimming pool so that your hair won’t absorb the chlorine or other chemicals.
Clarify carefully. Do not use clarifying shampoos to often. This can strip  the hair leaving it dry and frizzy.
Prepare the hair. Please follow the directions and be sure to always use a leave-in conditioner to help eliminate frizz and thermal heat protectant when using heat on the hair.
summer beach hair mistakes
Stephanie Rest, Spa Manager at Regent Palms Turks and Caicos got us beach-ready with these great tips:
Sunburn for your hair? Don’t forget that too much sun can be just as damaging to your hair as it is to your skin. A good trick to improve your hair while enjoying warm weather is to work in a deep conditioner and let soak in while you soak in the rays (with SPF of course!). A hydrating oil such asMoroccan Hair Oil is also a good option.
Pool Rules. Chlorine can be extremely drying and damaging to hair. It helps to soak your hair in fresh water before getting into the pool or avoid submerging your hair at all.
Post swim treatment. A leave-in conditioner can alleviate breakage post swim. After a dip in the ocean, spritz in some leave-in conditioner and comb through your hair with a wide-tooth comb. You get bonus points if the leave-in has SPF!
BYOS (Bring Your Own Shampoo). Don’t forget your own shampoo when you travel, especially if you’re hair is colored. Hotel amenities (even the luxurious ones) are often too harsh for colored hair and can strip your color.
goldwell hair products
An ounce of preparation is worth a pound of cure. Our grandmas told us that! Along with that sound advice, Douglas David, managing partner of Douglas Carroll Salon, suggests:
Salty products. Salt from perspiration and the ocean is the worst for the condition of hair and color fading. Keep a bottle of Goldwell Dual Senses Sun Reflects Leave-In Protect Spray at the pool and in your beach bag to continually spray in during the day. It will seal in moisture and has UV protection. Goldwell also has a hair and body wash, and an After Sun 60 Second Treatment for the hair.
Take it wide. After applying the Goldwell Dual Senses Sun Reflects, After Sun 60 Second Treatment or another leave-in conditioner, comb wet hair with a wide-tooth comb. When hair is wet it is very fragile and the most damage occurs at this time. The wide-tooth comb helps to prevent and limit such damage.
